Psalms 61:1-8 The Kingdom of God

What should we do while we live on earth? American Express has an advertisement saying “Don’t leave home without your American Express card”. And I tell you the truth, don’t leave this body without four things on your mind, make sure you cry out to God for these four things.

Psalm 61:5-7 contains four things we must have while living in this world; “For you, God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name. 6 Increase the days of the king’s life, his years for many generations. 7 May he be enthroned in God’s presence forever; appoint your love and faithfulness to protect him.” eternal heritage, eternal life, eternal kingship, and God’s love and faithfulness to protect you. In the book of Proverbs 29:18 it is written; “Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.” in other words, when people do not know what God has in store for those who love Him, they will continue to do as they like instead of serving God. Romans 8:28; “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” God has called us to receive the four blessings of eternal life, inheritance, kingship, and His love and faithfulness.

The first illustration would be Joseph, in Genesis 37 and 50. At the age of 17 in chapter 37 he is given a dream, that all of his older brothers would bow down before him, and he knew that he would be king. His brothers were jealous and angry. Then, to confirm his dream, God gave Joseph a second dream, in which even his father and mother bowed down before him. Because of these two dreams, Joseph began to suffer for Jesus Christ, but he endured to overcome his shame and affliction. By his perseverance, he sat on a throne in Genesis 50, at the age of 30. He suffered by the hands of his brothers, he refused to commit adultery, and was thrown into prison, and suffered in there, too. But Joseph had the revelation of God, he heeds wisdom’s instruction and endured 13 years of suffering.

Psalms 61:1; “Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer.” King David prayed like this because he was in trouble, and as a man after God’s heart, knew how to inherit eternal heritage, eternal life, and kingship. He cried out to God and knew that God would appoint His love and faithfulness to protect him. We should cry out to God like how David cried out to God when we face hardship.

Psalms 61:2; “From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.”  God is our Rock of foundation and our Refuge. Never walk away from God, keep in mind what he has in store for those who love him, The reason why God allows for you to experience pain and suffering is because you walk away from the revelation, the dream that God has given to you, as He had given to Joseph and Paul. 2 Timothy 4:6-8; “For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” Brothers and sisters, memorize these things that God has given to you, go to God and cry out to God. You can receive these blessings by praying to God. When you pray, pray according to God’s promises, and not your own word. Psalms 165:13; “Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,  and your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises  and faithful in all he does.” Call for God in God’s name, Jesus Christ.

Psalms 61:3; “For you have been my Refuge, a strong Tower against the foe. 4 I long to dwell in your Tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your Wings.” Psalms 46:1; “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” When you’re in trouble, the first person you should call is Jesus Christ. David had said this most likely because it was not the first time that he got himself into trouble. But our Lord is never changing, and is always faithful to His word. Hebrews 13:8; “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” As for the tent that is mentioned, it is written in John 2:21; “ But the temple he had spoken of was his body.”
